Troubleshooting your Sonozaire.
Applies to all models. Work top to bottom — most issues are power, a seated glass tube, or dirty electrodes. These units carry high voltage (10kV+); only a qualified tech should open and service them.
Before any internal work: unplug the unit and let it sit. Never bypass a fuse or the door safety switch. When in doubt, call (903) 525-9336.
| Symptom | Probable cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Machine not working | Power to the receptacle is off | Check the receptacle for power or a tripped GFI. |
| Machine not working | Cover not on well enough to close the door limit switch | Tighten or adjust the cover so the door switch fully closes. |
| Machine not working | Main fuse blown | Replace the main fuse with the spare fuse. |
| Machine not working | Failure of on-off switch or timer | Replace the on-off switch, contacts, or timer. |
| Machine not working | Failure of door limit switch | Replace the limit switch. |
| Machine not working | Failure of blower motor | Verify the blower motor rotates and hasn't failed. If it's an oil-type motor, lubricate; replace if necessary. |
| No ozone or low output | Glass tube(s) not up against the gasket(s) on the blower or plenum | Push the glass tube(s) firmly to the gasket(s) to stop air bypassing the generator. |
| No ozone or low output | Ozone level setting too low | Increase the setting. |
| No ozone or low output | Dirty or oxidized glass tube(s) and electrodes | Clean the glass and electrodes, or replace them. |
| No ozone or low output | Cracked glass insulator(s) | Replace the glass insulator tube(s). |
| No ozone or low output | Blown HV transformer fuse | Verify the fuse is blown and replace it. Check the glass. |
| No ozone or low output | HV transformer failed | Test the transformer and replace if required. |
| No ozone or low output | Dirty, worn, or broken variable-transformer wiper (brush) | Clean or replace the variable-transformer wiper. |
| No ozone or low output | Variable transformer, rheostat or resistor failed | Test and replace components if required. |
| No ozone or low output | No air movement (blower not operating) | Clean the filter, free the blower of obstructions, oil the motor with 20W oil. Replace the motor if necessary. |
| Snapping / arcing sound | Too much moisture or dirt inside the unit | Shut down and clean/dry the electrodes and glass. A clean unit makes a low hissing/buzzing corona sound, not snapping. |
| Main fuses blown | Shorted variable transformer or rheostat | Replace the component. |
| Main fuses blown | Shorted blower motor | Replace the blower motor. |
| Transformer fuses blown | Transformer shorted | Replace the transformer. |
| Transformer fuses blown | Glass insulator tube very dirty, damp, or cracked | Clean the glass and electrodes, or replace the glass tube(s) and electrode(s). |
| Transformer fuses blown | Wire insulation breakdown | Locate the wire failure and replace. |
